A story of regret, of reconciliation, and of hope, AWR explores the complex relationship between a father and son. Combining panoramic cinematography with a picture-in-picture composition, it blends documentary and narrative techniques to present what is best described as a cinematic personal essay.

What strikes me about And What Remains is the universality of the story - lost and later refound father-son relationships. This is a fresh retelling because this time the lost relationship is the one between the father and grandfather. But the found relationship is the one between the grandfather and son. It caused me to consider my own relationships with my father and with my son. I found the editing and cinematography enhanced the story, rather than distracting from it. I would recommend this short to anyone who wishes to ponder the male relationships in his or her own life.
